The International Symposium “Theory and practice in the profesionalization of the school/educational psychologist - a challenge for the 3rd millennium", Bucharest 2006
Between 25- 28 September took place in Bucharest, the capital of Romania the International Symposium "Theory and practice in the profesionalization of the school/educational psychologist - a challenge for the 3rd millennium”.
The organizing committee was leaded by the President of the Conference, Senior Lecturer Dr. Valeria Negovan and involved the members of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences from Bucharest University and the Educational Psychology Department of the Centre of Applied Psychology. The International Symposium was co-financed by the National Authority for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Education and Research, the 2006 competition.

The scientific international event has been addressed to the specialists in the field of educational psychology, the theorists and practitioners in the field of educational psychology, the theorists and practitioners in the field of psycho-pedagogical assistance in all educational institutions, from the pre-school level to the university level, as well as to students who prepare for a career in the field of psychological and educational learning.
The scientific value of the conference was highlighted by the honorable personalities from Europe and U.S.A.: Bernhard Meissner, Germany, Chair of the European Committee of the International School Psychology Association (ISPA), Crisis Management in Schools; Anders Poulsen, Editor and Consultant World Go Round, News Letter, ISPA - International School Psychology Association; Elisabeth Jacobsen, Executive Secretary, ISPA International School Psychology Association, Central Office, Copenhagen, Denmark; Rodica Goichman, MD, psychiatrist, Senior child and adolescent psychiatrist of Tel Aviv Mental Health Clinics, Israel and Sid Jacobson, Ph.D.

From the behalf of the renown Romanian Psychologists had participated: Prof. Ruxandra Rascanu, the Faculty if Psychology and Educational Sciences, Bucharest University; Senior Lecturer Mariana Caluschi, PhD, the University "Petre Andrei", Iasi and many others.
The sections of the Symposium highlighted the most important problems of the educational life: The school/educational psychologist and the contemporary society; the quality of educational psychology and school and vocational counseling services; co-curricular activities (training, coaching, mentoring, supervision, volunteering) and their role in the university training; psychology in school - fundamental themes and concepts; efficient assistance and educational counseling practices in school - case studies/personal intervention experience in: school adaptation/maladjustment; school success/excellence; the pupils' relationships/the relations of the school with the family; school violence prevention; alcohol, cigarettes and drug consumption prevention in schools.

An important role in education and scientific development has been played by the workshops which took place in the same time with the papers presentation on the sections. The subjects debated underlined the importance of the main aspects of the educational life in Romanian schools: The Management of the Crisis; ADHD deserves attention; The development of school psychology and special needs education; An Introduction to Teaching Learning; The prevention of the dependencies to the youth and Creating a positive environment in the classroom - a multi-leveled model of intervention; Experiential Group focused on the development of self identity, gender-role identity in teenagers and Simultaneous development of psycho-social competencies: empathy and creativity.

The editorial board meeting focused on the main aspects of the crisis management in school, the educational system in Romania, the conditions of publishing the educational research and the role of the teacher in pupils’ relationships in the class.

This symposium offered the participants a special opportunity of experience exchange debated the specific and acute problems of this profession that plays a special role in optimizing the activity in all sectors in which learning and personal development are primary objectives.
